Course Introduction

The Financial Leadership Masterclass is delivered in 4 sessions and targets non-finance senior executives and leaders looking to enhance their financial management and reporting skills. The Masterclass offers a deep-dive on the principles that drive effective financial management at the top, with the goal of transforming the relationship between management and finance and the development of leaders who understand their main responsibilities in relation to finance and can thus drive financial results.

1. Foundations of Financial Intelligence

This session will explore the key financial statements and the core principles underpinning their preparation. Some of the topics that will be covered include assets and liabilities, difference between profit and cash, how to read cash flow statements and so much more. This module’s goal is to demystify complex financial jargon to help the delegates make financial decisions more confidently.

2. Key Elements of Financial Resilience

The COVID-19 pandemic has tested many company’s financial resilience and shows the need for building firms that can withstand unseen circumstances financially. This module explores how understanding and ensuring free cash flow, clear knowledge of a firm’s value drivers and a proper assessment, mitigation and handling of risk can build a company’s financial resilience.

About the Instructor

Deborah Morton-Dare leads the finance programme at the Institute of Directors. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with EY in London and specialises in financial and strategic management training for all levels of financial background, from beginners to advanced, and to audiences ranging from SMEs to boards of major listed companies.

Deborah started her professional career in Corporate Finance gaining extensive experience in a variety of corporations and financial institutions. Deborah is an experienced company director, having set up and run several businesses during her career and held numerous financial advisory roles over many years assisting companies in raising finance and structuring their finance departments. Deborah is currently based in London but has wide ranging international experience.
